In addition to our flagship store in Port-of-Spain, we now have a second location in Barataria, making it even easier for our community to access the finest textiles. Our extensive selection of fabrics, home textiles, and furnishings reflects our passion for our craft and our customers. Every team member, from the owner to our knowledgeable staff, is dedicated to exceeding expectations and ensuring a shopping experience like no other.
As a young peddler, he traveled from house to house, selling notions and fabric lengths, building trust and relationships with every customer he met. In those early days, Mr. Aboud’s perseverance was key. He paid only one penny per day for a merchant’s license, unable to afford the full monthly cost, and relied on his reputation for offering credit to his customers. It was through hard work, dedication, and an unwavering belief in his craft that he began to build the foundation of what would become a cultural mainstay in Trinidad and Tobago.
Over the years, the business grew, moving to Independence Square and eventually settling at its current location at the corner of Henry and Queen Janelle Commission Streets in Port-of-Spain. As demand for quality fabrics and excellent service grew, Mr. Aboud expanded its operations, opening two more branches – Textile Corner and Factory Outlet – both conveniently located near the flagship store.
During this time, Mr. Aboud demonstrated resilience and adaptability, pivoting to a bold new strategy. He became a trailblazer in the textile industry, travelling to Asian markets in Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and Singapore to source fabrics. He customised textiles to suit Caribbean preferences, adjusting colours to flatter the region’s diverse skin tones.
With his sons, Gary and Gregory, joining the team after university, the Aboud family set its sights further and the company grew its wholesale and export operations across the Caribbean, cementing Jimmy Aboud – The Textile King as a household name.
What started as the dream of one man has grown into a generational family-run enterprise, deeply rooted in tradition and community.
